Eligibility Open to students registered full-time in a graduate program.

Candidates must be of Métis heritage and provide proof of Métis heritage by submitting one of the following:
• Photocopy of valid Métis Nation of Alberta (MNA) membership card (obtained by applying to the MNA) or, membership card in any of the following: Métis Settlements of Alberta, Métis Nation of Ontario, Manitoba Métis Federation, Métis Nation – Saskatchewan, Métis Nation British Columbia: or
• Photocopy of parent’s, aunt’s/uncle’s or sibling’s valid membership card in any of the above mentioned Métis organizations; or
• Proof of Métis genealogy
Candidates with questions regarding the proof of heritage documents should contact the University of Calgary Native Centre (403- 220-6034).

Candidates must include with their application a short essay of no more than 500 words describing their experience and engagement with Alberta’s Métis community; students must also include a statement explain how this financial support will assist their academic career. (Appendix A.2 - Additional Eligibility Statement of the Graduate Award Application).

Candidates cannot be receiving sponsorship from Rupertsland Institute – Métis Training to Employment Services.

Candidates cannot be a Registered Indian under Canada’s Indian Act.

ADJUDICATION: The award will be determined by a Selection Committee to be constituted as follows:
• 1 representative from the Student Awards & Financial Aid office, who will act as chair
• 1 representative from the Faculty of Graduate Studies
• 1 representative from the Native Centre, who will be an aboriginal person
• 1 representative from the University of Calgary Academic Faculty to be named by the chair
• 1 representative from Rupertsland Institute to be named by the Métis Education Foundation (MEF)

The chair will provide adequate notice of the date and location of Selection Committee meetings to all members. In order for award selection to take place, a minimum of at least 4 committee members must be in attendance.
