Ethel King-Shaw Doctoral Scholarship in Literacy
Dr. Ethel King-Shaw was a professor in the Werklund School of Education at the University of Calgary from 1955 to 1985. An internationally renowned scholar, Dr. King-Shaw made substantial and lasting contributions to both the Werklund School of Education and the University of Calgary. The Dr. Ethel King-Shaw Doctoral Scholarship in Literacy honours her commitment to literacy education and teacher education.

Eligibility Open to students registered full-time in a doctoral program in the Werklund School of Education.

Candidates must submit a one-page statement outlining their professional experience in the area of literacy education, including teaching, community service, and contributions to organizations focused on literacy learning and teaching.

Candidates’ research must focus on early years English language learning and development or on teaching strategies that improve literacy abilities of young children.

This award cannot be held more than once.
