Maritime Awards Society of Canada Graduate Scholarship
The Maritime Awards Society of Canada was established in 1987 as a fund-raising initiative of the Naval Officers’ Association of Vancouver Island (NOAVI). The society’s objective was to inaugurate a number of scholarships for graduate studies in the broad field of ocean studies. The first MASC scholarship was made available at the University of Victoria and this was followed with similar scholarships at Calgary, Dalhousie and Memorial universities. The society has evolved into a nation-wide network of citizens and specialists with close interests in maritime affairs. MASC has undertaken a number of program activities, both public and private, with a view to enhancing public awareness of the importance of maritime affairs to the economic and social well-being of all Canadians. MASC continues to expand with conferences and workshops in the offshore hydrocarbon sector as well as in other public policy contexts related to the use and management of Canadian waters in the Atlantic, Pacific, and Arctic oceans.
