Christiane Adèle Roy Scholarship
Christiane Adèle Roy (née Gratton) was endowed with intelligence, wit, and optimism. At age 20, Chris graduated from l’Université de Montréal with a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and began her career as a dietician. Education became one of her passions and she advanced as a teacher, training dieticians; and as a writer, co-authoring “Children Have Diabetes Too”. Chris’ deep commitment to ongoing education inspired her to complete her Master of Adult Education at the University of Calgary and then remain with the university as program director and team leader, Adult Education and Lifestyles with Continuing Education. Chris was the driving force behind the University School Week program, a community outreach project benefiting disadvantaged children in grades three through eleven. A loving wife, mother, and grandmother, Chris passed away in November 2000 at the age of 56, following a valiant battle with cancer. This scholarship is awarded in recognition of the vitality and joy Chris brought not only to Continuing Education, but to all whose lives she touched.
