Governor General's Gold Medal |
The Governor General’s Academic Medal was first awarded in 1873 by the Earl of Dufferin, and has since become one of the most prestigious awards that a student in a Canadian educational institution may receive. With this award, the Governor General of Canada continues the tradition of encouraging outstanding scholarship across the nation. |

Eligibility |
The award is open to students in all programs leading to a graduate degree who have completed all requirements for their graduate degree in the twelve-month period prior to the deadline for applications. Awarded annually at Fall convocation to the graduate student who achieves the highest academic standing. |

Students should consult their graduate program office for application information.
Graduate programs may submit one nominee from a master’s program and one from a doctoral program. Each graduate program will establish its own procedures for selecting the nominees. Nominations will include the following documents:
1. Graduate medal nomination form (available via the FGS Sharepoint) 2. Letter of support from Graduate Program Director 3. Letter of support from supervisor 4. Abstract of the student’s research (if not already included in the thesis) 5. Official reports of the thesis examiners (where applicable) 6. List of publications or recognition/awards (stemming from the thesis) 7. Thesis or other creative work

The Medals & Prizes Subcommittee will forward recommendations to the Graduate Scholarship Committee. The recommendations are subject to final approval of the Graduate Scholarship Committee.
All nominees will be considered for a Chancellor’s Graduate Medal. |
