Eligibility Open to students registered full-time in a graduate program and must demonstrate a connection to the Métis Nation of Alberta.

• The student cannot be a current client of, or receiving funding from the Rupertsland Institute;
• The student must show proof of Métis ancestry by submitting one of the following documents:
o A current Métis Nation of Alberta membership card; or,
o A current membership card from Métis Nation British Columbia, Métis Nation Saskatchewan, Manitoba Métis Federation or Métis Nation Ontario; or,
o A current Métis Nation of Alberta membership card from a parent(supported by the applicants long form birth certificate) or a card from a grandparent (supported by applicant’s and parent’s long form birth certificate); or,
o A verifiable Métis genealogical profile showing the applicant’s linkage to the historic Métis Nation in the Canadian Northwest (verified by the MNA).
• The student must declare that his/her name will not appear on the Government of Canada’s Indian Registry or a Band list pursuant to the Indian Act and is not an Inuk or a non-Status Indian.
• The student must be an Alberta resident and show proof of 90 days of consistent residency.
• The student must show current or recent involvement in the Métis community.

Applicants must complete a statement of eligibility (approximately 400 words) outlining reasons for the chosen field of study, how a Metis Scholar Award will impact his/her journey towards education and career objectives, and how they are involved in the Métis Community.
